How do we get compensated?
Wednesday, February 03, 2010
I am sure you could see this one coming but this has to be said. With the warfarin (Maraven) 3mg tablets recall taking place, I can’t help but feel like everyone thinks all the work being put in by pharmacists to sort this out is going to be done with no compensation.
Let’s take this one step at a time. Pharmacists are expected to generate reports to include all patients dispensed Maraven 3mg tablets after November 23 2009, follow every one of them up and somehow retrieve the stock back. In some cases patients cannot make their way to the pharmacy so a pickup and delivery has to be organised. In some instances blister packs have to be dismantled and warfarin tablets changed, plastic bottles used, courier costs incurred and paper work filled out.
Pharmacists have to deal with out of stocks and ration available stocks, resulting in multi dispensing; and have to re-dispense without an original prescription.
Think of the amount of time put in trying to counsel, explain and to people at ease. I guess I can go on and on, but I think you all get my drift, who is going to compensate us for this and what are the legal implications when it comes to dispensing without a prescription?
How is everyone dealing with this situation and who should fork out for all the hard work pharmacists are putting in to sort this mess out. I acknowledge the importance of this, and, yes, errors do happen, but we should not be expected to drop everything and not get any acknowledgment.
Cheers
