Appointments to the Pharmacy Council

Health Minister Tony Ryall has appointed a new member to the Pharmacy Council, Dr Te Kani Kingi.

Dr Kingi replaces Darryn Russell, lay member of the council since 2004.

During his tenure with the council, Mr Russell, who is director of Maori Development at the University of Otago, was instrumental in leading the development and implementation of the Maori Health Strategy for pharmacy, as well as leading work on cultural competencies.

The council expresses its sincere thanks to Mr Russell for his enormous contribution to the profession and the public over this time.

Dr Kingi is the director of Te Mata o Te Tau, the Academy for Maori Research and Scholarship at Massey University, Wellington. He is a current member of the National Health Committee and the chair of the advisory board of the Mental Health Commission. Until recently he was a member of the National Ethics Advisory Committee.

Carolyn Oakley-Brown and Keith Crump have been reappointed to the council by Mr Ryall. Mrs Oakley-Brown will remain as council chair.

Mrs Oakley-Brown welcomes Dr Kingi to the board table and looks forward to working with all council members to ensure pharmacists perform to the highest standards of practice to protect and promote public wellbeing.
