INFECTIOUS DISEASES PLAN LAUNCHED

By 2005, 95 per cent of children will be fully vaccinated by age two. This is one of the aims of the infectious diseases plan launched earlier this week. In addition, the plan aims to have 75 per cent or more of the high-risk adult population vaccinated annually against influenza. The new action plan - Integrated Approach to Infectious Disease: Priorities for Action 2 - is supported by the infectious disease sector and endorsed by the New Zealand health strategy. The action plan also addresses improved surveillance of antibiotic resistance in hospitals and improving data collection on sexually transmitted infection.
